The Kolkata Knight Riders team’s debate over captaincy in connection with the IPL 2025 auction is on fire. KKR won the IPL 2024 title under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, but the franchise released the India batter ahead of the new season. Since the auction, the center of the competition has revealed two important contenders vying for the KKR captaincy-Jacky Ajinkya Rahane and Venkatesh Iyer. While this is a brilliant experience option, Venkatesh is in the prime line of contenders at the mention of Rs 23.75 crore. On the effects of the auction, KKR CEO Venky Mysore revealed and provided an entirely clear discussion of the whole captaincy conundrum.
“Well, you know that. To be honest, we have to sit down and take stock. Sometimes what happens is, after you’ve done all of these things, you just have to sit down, reflect, look at the whole thing. There are stakeholders and parts of the think tank won’t be here. So we’ll all sit down and have a proper chat about that, and I’m sure a proper decision will be made.” Mysore talking to the broadcasters.
Venkatesh Iyer, meanwhile, said on Sunday he would be “more than happy” to take on the captaincy challenge and fill the successful shoes of Shreyas Iyer.
In what can be seen more as a reckless and somewhat unexpected move, the Shah Rukh-he birthday owned franchise did not opt to retain the 2024 IPL-winning captain for this mega auction and entered into an all-out bidding war with Royal Challengers Bengaluru for Venkatesh.
“I had the opportunity to captain the side in Nitish Ranas unavailability owing to his unfortunate injury but I was also the vice-captain,” said Venkatesh after he was bought by KKR for this huge amount.
“I think it has always been said that captaincy is just a title; leadership is when you create an environment where all players feel that they can be with the team and are there to contribute. If I am given this responsibility, I will be more than willing to take it on. Yes, I am ready for it.”
“Together, we will aim to defend the championship and continue our winning campaign. Thank you very much for picking me up in your squad,” he added.
