Shubman Gill, who played a key role in India’s historic Gabba victory in 2021, suffered a fracture in his left thumb, which ruled him out of the opening clash.
It is still unclear whether India’s regular captain, Rohit Sharma, will play the first test or not. Rohit Sharma and his wife Ritika Sajdeh were blessed with a baby boy, their second child – on Friday.
Veteran KL Rahul was considered as Rohit’s potential replacement for the Perth Test. Unfortunately, Rahul has also been hit on his elbow while batting during an intra-squad game.
