Rumor has it that Hardik Pandya is aiming for the vacant captain spot after Rohit Sharma called an end to his sparkling T20I career after leading India to its second ICC World Cup trophy in the shortest format. Creating vacancy for younger players to step in T20Is, World Cup winners Rohit, Virat and Jadeja have said their farewell to the shortest format after India won the title in the Caribbean.
Though Rohit and Kohli have quit the shortest format, they will still give their appearance in traditional formats of the game. As per reports, Rohit, Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah were expected to have rest for the upcoming white-ball series between India and Sri Lanka. The T20I and the ODI series will be the first assignment for Gautam Gambhir as India’s head coach.
According to a report, it has been indicated that Rohit Sharma can feature in the ODI series in Sri Lanka. Gambhir clarified that he expects all players to remain available for India across all formats. Rohit can make himself available for the Sri Lanka series because, for the lead-up to ICC Champions Trophy, India will only play a few games in the 50-over format. Team India is scheduled to play 6 ODIs before the ICC event. The BCCI also had earlier confirmed that Rohit Sharma will lead India at the Champions Trophy.
