Pakistan spin bowler Usman Tariq has drawn attention to himself at cricket’s Twenty20 World Cup through his delivery pause and his statue-like position at the crease.
He shows just enough ability to disrupt opposing batters timing.
He has created various disputes because his delivery pause and sling bowling method violate cricket regulations against illegal pitching which people commonly refer to as chucking. Pakistani cricket authorities have already reported him twice about his conduct but he was found innocent both times.
The 28-year-old off spinner has established himself as a remarkable bowler through his unusual delivery method which has already impressed major competitors. He took three wickets against the United States who lacked experience during his first T20 World Cup match in Sri Lanka this week.
The cricket world presents complex conditions which lead to potential illegal deliveries from Tariq.
The first part involves the “15-degree debate” because umpires must evaluate elbow flexion beyond the ICC limit.
Tariq’s delivery stride pause has generated discussion about his performance.
The batters face confusion
Tariq’s bowling action created confusion for batters who included Cameron Green from Australia and Dewald Brevis from South Africa.
Brevis the power-hitter went out to Tariq during his second T20 international cricket match in November. Green walked back to the boundary after mocking Tariq’s pitching motion. He later showed remorse for his actions after he hit a wide delivery which ended up in the cover fielder’s hands during Pakistan’s victory over Australia at Lahore.
Tariq achieved his T20 cricket success after he completed a hat-trick at Rawalpindi through his performance against Zimbabwe in November when he achieved 4-18 during the tri-series. He has taken 11 wickets off his 88 balls in only four T20 internationals.
The selectors chose to include Tariq as part of their 15-man T20 World Cup squad because they predicted that Sri Lankan pitches would favor slow bowlers instead of fast bowlers.
Tariq needed multiple attempts before he could achieve success in professional cricket. The Pakistan Super League’s main domestic T20 tournament has reported two occasions when he used suspect bowling action because he tested his performance at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore.
Tariq said, “My arm has two elbows which create joint motion problems for me.”
“I have got this tested and cleared. Everyone feels I bend my arm and all that. My bent arm is a biological issue.” Tariq participated in the Caribbean Premier League where his bowling style led him to become Trinbago Knight Riders’ second-best wicket taker in the tournament.
The players faced difficulties because of his prolonged stop in between his two deliveries.
The Associated Press reported former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed who played with Tariq in the PSL’s Quetta Gladiators that The batters at his current bowling crease position find it hard to read Tariq’s pitching style because of his extended pause before he throws the ball.
Tariq’s long pause disrupts all of the batters’ focus because after he goes through his long pause he will throw a fast delivery or a slow ball that will confuse the batters.
