West Indies Cricket announced T20I and ODI squads for the Sri Lanka tour. The team has seen absence of big names such as Nicholas Pooran, Andre Russel, Akeal Hosein and Shimron Hetmyer. These veteran players have been rested due to them opting out themselves for personal reasons.
Terrance Hinds and Shamar Springer have received their maiden call-up due to their recent performances. Brandon King still remains rested due to injury and has been replaced by Evin Lewis.
“The tour of Sri Lanka gives us a chance to test our depth and assess players in different situations, especially with several senior players missing out for various reasons, including a need for rest and rehabilitation from injury. We are confident in the squad’s ability to compete strongly against Sri Lanka,” said head coach Daren Sammy.
King, however, has been names in the ODI squad. Shai Hope is going to be leading the team with Alzarri Joseph as his deputy. Wicketkeeper-batter Jewel Andrew will also play his maiden ODI match.
“As we continue to build our ODI team, this tour offers a valuable opportunity to evaluate strategies and give opportunities to emerging talent. We are excited to see young players like Jewel Andrew, who has earned his place as an exciting prospect for the future.”
