Will Josh Hazlewood play in remainder of IPL?
The Indian Premier League 2025 remains in a state of limbo, with fans and franchises awaiting a confirmed restart schedule following the mid-season suspension. So let’s look at the Will Josh Hazlewood play in remainder of IPL?
Amid growing uncertainty, one major talking point has emerged: the likely absence of Josh Hazlewood from the remainder of the tournament. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru pacer has flown back to Australia and is currently nursing a shoulder niggle, an injury that could keep him out of action just as his national team prepares for the World Test Championship (WTC) final next month.
Josh Hazlewood has been one of Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s key performers this season, leading their bowling attack with 18 wickets in just 10 matches. His economy rate of 8.44 may appear high, but it’s balanced by an excellent strike rate of 12.28 and a standout best of 4/33, which states that underline his effectiveness in high-pressure moments.
Despite his strong form, pacer Hazlewood missed RCB’s final league match before the IPL suspension and has since returned to Australia. With the WTC final against South Africa set to begin on June 11 at Lord’s, Cricket Australia is likely to prioritise his recovery.
Having endured a long layoff due to multiple injuries earlier in the year, Hazlewood is seen as a key cog in Australia’s pace attack for their title defence after winning the previous WTC final in 2023.
Australia won the second edition of the WTC in 2023 following a win over India at the Kennington Oval in London.
As for the IPL, a revised schedule is expected soon, with 13 regular season matches and four playoff fixtures still to be completed.
However, with a packed international calendar, the return of key overseas players remains uncertain, a situation that could significantly impact teams like RCB and Delhi Capitals, who are very much in the race of playoffs in the business end of the tournament.
