Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises have given their retention lists before the auction set to begin next month, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have not taken their former skipper Faf du Plessis for the tournament.
Now there are rumours circulating that Virat Kohli will be the captain and lead the franchise once again, even though he left captaincy after 2021. However, the director of cricket for RCB clarified that no solid decision has been taken regarding the captaincy of the franchise for the nearcoming tournament.
Talking in a video after the announcement of retentions, Mo Bobat ruled out that Kohli to have been confirmed as the captain.
“I am sorry to disappoint everybody listening. We have not made any decision related to captaincy or on that (Kohli returning as skipper) as yet. We are open to options. The only obvious decision we made was not to retain Faf. He did a great job last year and the year before that. So from our perspective, we will keep a very open mind when we head to the auction,” said Bobat in a video posted by RCB.
