India is scheduled to play a five-match test series against Australia, which might make way for their chance in World Test Championship. The look for a backup opener in the Indian team has increased as Rohit Sharma might be unavailable for the first Test in Perth.
Apart from two centuries on home ground, Rohit has not made much contribution in the Test cricket this year, and a place will also be vacant in the opening match.
A BCCI source said, “There isn’t any complete clarity about the situation. It is understood that Rohit has intimated to the BCCI that there is a possibility that due to a pressing personal matter, he might have to skip one of the two Tests at the beginning of the series.”
Abhimanyu has been in fierce form and has made a reminder of his performance with a century in the Ranji Trophy as well.
BCCI has announced the squad for the tour of New Zealand where Easwaran could not secure his place. He might be hoping to continue his fierce form to further secure his chances in the squad.
