The Seattle Seahawks celebrate with fans during the Super Bowl LX victory celebration and parade at Lumen Field on February 11, 2026 in Seattle, Washington.
For the first time in franchise history, the Seattle Seahawks are set to be featured on HBO’s Hard Knocks ahead of the 2026 season, according to reports.
In previous years, Seattle avoided participation due to league rules that allowed certain teams to opt out. A move that former head coach Pete Carroll reportedly agreed with. However, updated eligibility requirements have widened the pool, and now the Seahawks will be seen on screen during training camp.
The news has generated mixed reactions. Some view the opportunity as an exciting behind-the-scenes look at the championship winning roster. Meanwhile, others remain cautious due to a belief in the the so-called “Hard Knocks curse.” The idea suggests that teams featured on the show often struggle once the regular season begins.
Seattle Seahawks Set to Star in HBO Show
Hard Knocks, produced by HBO, is a reality sports documentary that follows one NFL team through training camp and preseason preparations. Since its 2001 debut with the Baltimore Ravens, the series has offered fans a look at roster battles, coaching decisions, and the personal stories of players on the team.
Episodes typically run around 55 minutes and air weekly, building anticipation for the upcoming season. However, rumors of a Hard Knocks curse often cloud some of the excitement heading into a team’s upcoming season.
The Hard Knocks Curse
The idea of a “curse” largely comes from an increase in attention and pressure. Cameras are always around, and players and coaches must balance performance with constant media exposure. For a team like Seattle, especially coming off a Super Bowl victory, the added tension could heighten expectations and create distractions during an important time.
Historically, the numbers behind the “curse” are somewhat misleading. While only some of the Hard Knocks teams have made the playoffs, earlier participation rules often meant that underperforming or rebuilding teams were selected. As a result, postseason struggles may not necessarily be tied to the show itself.
Still, recent examples continue to fuel speculation. The Buffalo Bills appeared in the most recent season and despite making it to the playoffs, fell somewhat controversially to the Denver Broncos during their postseason run. The Chicago Bears, featured in 2024, experienced a difficult 10-loss stretch following their bye week that derailed their season. Meanwhile, the New York Jets saw their highly anticipated 2023 campaign collapse almost immediately when Aaron Rodgers suffered a season-ending Achilles injury on the fourth drive of the season.
Despite these examples, many argue that the “curse” is more of a coincidence. Injuries, scheduling, and roster performance remain far more significant factors in determining a team’s success than a documentary series.
For the Seahawks, Hard Knocks presents both an opportunity and a challenge. The exposure can strengthen fan engagement and showcase the team’s leadership and talent on a larger stage. At the same time, it introduces an additional layer of pressure during a period that is typically focused solely on preparation.
Ultimately, whether the “curse” holds any real weight will be determined on the field. For Seattle, the goal remains: build on recent success and contend for another championship, cameras or not.
