Will the Winnipeg Jets Look to do Something Significant This Offseason?

From the President’s Trophy to missing the playoffs, will the Winnipeg Jets look to do something significant this offseason?

The Sheet with Jeff Marek: David Pagnotta and Jeff Marek talk about the Winnipeg Jets, and if they could look at making a significant move this offseason. Ownerships message will likely always be, that for their market, they need to be winning.

Marek: “I think the Winnipeg Jets again will try to do something. But given it’s going to be a season without playoffs, do you think there’s any way they do something significant here?

Like, I don’t know, when I look at like the big contracts that were handed out and not the most recent one in Kyle Connor, but like the (Mark) Scheifele contract or the Connor Hellebuyck contract. If the Jets are going to take a small step backwards to lurch forwards, man, you could get a haul for some of the guys they just recently signed to big-ticket deals. You think there’s any chance?”

NHL Rumors: Are the St. Louis Blues Choosing Joel Hofer Over Jordan Binnington?

Pagnotta: “I mean, one of those, it’s, it veers off the direction that ownership has brought in, or, excuse me, instilled. And within that market, you’ve got to be competitive. And I think that’s the message from Mark Chipman down is we got to be competitive. We’ve got to be, you know, a legitimate contender here. And we’ll take this blip in the radar. We’ll take this anomaly. It’s a one off, but next season, we better get our butts back in the postseason.

And we need the Hellebuyck’s, the Scheifele’s, the Connor’s, the Morrissey’s and so on, to be the ones that are driving this ship.

What they looked for all season, obviously, weren’t able to replace was Nic Ehlers and the secondary scoring. And they had looked around the league, how can we bring in two guys on our second line, or at least one for now, that can play and mesh with Cole Perfetti and go from there?

Now, as they were exploring, some teams were saying, well, just give us Cole Perfetti, and then we can have a nice conversation. And that didn’t really get too far.

Will James Hagens Actually Sign an ELC This Season with Boston?

But it does look like the Jets, I do think they are going to try to take some big swings, but I think it’ll be trying to piece some things together in order to shore up that second line, in order to give them more of a balanced offensive attack going in, going in to next season.
