Will Weather Delay South Africa’s Winning Moment?

Will Weather Delay South Africa’s Winning Moment?

South Africa is just 69 runs away from creating history at Lord’s. After dominating Day 3 of the ICC World Test Championship Final 2025 against Australia, the Proteas finished at 213/2 and look all set to lift their first ICC trophy in 26 years. But their final push could face hurdles not from the Australians, but from the skies over London.

Markram-Bavuma Partnership Keeps South Africa Ahead

Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma stood firm under pressure, adding 143 unbeaten runs for the third wicket. After the early dismissal of Ryan Rickelton and Wiaan Mulder, Markram’s calm and Bavuma’s fighting spirit brought South Africa back into the match.

A dropped catch by Steve Smith gave Bavuma a life, and he made it count. Earlier in the day, Mitchell Starc’s unbeaten 58 had helped Australia set a target of 282. But by the end of Day 3, it was clear that South Africa had full control of the game.

Rain Threat Looms Over Day 4 at Lord’s

While South Africa are favourites going into Day 4, the London weather could still play spoilsport. As per AccuWeather, the morning will begin warm and partly sunny, but chances of rain will rise later in the day. The probability of rain is 55% during the first session, with wind speeds expected to touch 43 km/h.

Although the yellow thunderstorm warning covers the night hours, intermittent showers during the afternoon may interrupt play.

If a full day is lost due to weather, the reserve day (Day 6) will come into effect, but only if sufficient time has been lost across the first five days.

South Africa will hope to finish the chase before the weather takes charge. Day 4 could be historic or frustratingly washed out.
