Game Day: Winnipeg Jets vs. Los Angeles Kings

Winnipeg faced the Edmonton Oilers last night and set an unfortunate franchise record, suffering their 11th straight loss in a 4-3 regulation defeat. The Jets jumped out to a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes on goals from Kyle Connor (21), Tanner Pearson (5), and Josh Morrissey (7), but, much like Tuesday’s game against the Vegas Golden Knights, let their foot off the gas far too early.

Edmonton responded with three unanswered goals while holding Winnipeg to just five shots on goal over the final 40 minutes. Connor Hellebuyck made 26 saves as the Jets fell to 15-22-5 and remain dead last in the NHL standings.

The Kings wrapped up a four-game homestand Wednesday with a 4-3 overtime loss to the San Jose Sharks, with William Eklund scoring the game-winner. Alex Turcotte (3), Kevin Fiala (16), and Alex Laferriere (11) scored for L.A., while Darcy Kuemper stopped 24 shots. The loss dropped the Kings to 18-14-10, fifth in the Pacific Division.

Tonight marks the final meeting of the season between the two Western Conference clubs. Winnipeg took the opener 3-2 in regulation on Oct. 11 before L.A. responded with a 3-0 shutout win on Nov. 4 at Crypto.com Arena, setting up tonight’s contest as the season-series decider.

Eric Comrie is expected to get the start for the Jets after Hellebuyck played last night, as Winnipeg looks to avoid extending its losing streak to 12 games.
