Wriddhiman Saha to Retire After This Season

Wriddhiman Saha to Retire After This Season

Veteran Indian wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha has announced his retirement from all formats of cricket following the ongoing Ranji Trophy season, marking the end of a remarkable journey.

The Retirement Announcement

Saha, known for his agility behind the stumps and resilience with the bat, has represented India in 40 Tests and 9 T20 Internationals.

He also enjoyed a distinguished IPL career, amassing 170 matches for franchises including Kolkata Knight Riders, Punjab Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Gujarat Titans.

Reflecting on his career, Saha expressed gratitude to Bengal cricket fans. “After a cherished journey in cricket, this season will be my last. I’m honored to represent Bengal one final time, playing only in the Ranji Trophy before I retire. Let’s make this season one to remember!” Saha shared on X.

The 39-year-old’s journey in domestic cricket began in Bengal, where he played from 2007 to 2022 before moving to Tripura.

Saha’s exit from Bengal stemmed from a conflict with a Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) official, who allegedly accused him of making excuses to avoid Ranji matches.

Despite this, Saha returned to Bengal this year, eager to contribute to the team and help reach the Ranji Trophy knockouts. His determination to give “more than 100 percent” wherever he played remained constant throughout his career.

International and IPL Career

Saha was an indispensable part of India’s Test squad, earning respect for his wicket keeping skills, especially in home conditions.

Though his career was later overshadowed by Rishabh Pant’s rise, Saha remained committed, culminating in an IPL journey across several franchises. Notably, his recent franchise, Gujarat Titans, released him for the 2025 season.

Return to Bengal

After two seasons with Tripura, Saha rejoined Bengal in 2024. His decision reflects a deep connection with his home state, underscoring his commitment to Bengal cricket.

Saha aims to make this final season memorable, focusing on Ranji Trophy success and mentoring young talents.
