Another exciting day of the WTA 1000 in Indian Wells is on the cards with former Australian Open finalist Jennifer Brady continuing her comeback as she faces Croat Antonia Ruzic. That is one of four contests predicted in this article. As always, we here at LWOT cover all the action around the grounds and predict who will advance.
WTA Indian Wells Day 2 Predictions
Marie Bouzkova vs Taylor Townsend
Head–to–Head: Bouzkova 1 – 0 Townsend
Marie Bouzkova’s 2026 season has yet to find rhythm, with the Czech player having dropped seven of her first 12 matches and needing a slice of fortune to halt a three-match skid in Mérida, advancing only after Emiliana Arango retired in the deciding set. Any momentum was short-lived, however, as Bouzkova fell in three sets to Magdalena Frech in the quarterfinals.
Next up is Taylor Townsend, who arrives with far more wind in her sails. After a quiet start to the year and a first-round exit at the Australian Open, the American surged to the final of the ATX Open with four straight wins before falling to Peyton Stearns. Townsend has kept that momentum rolling with two qualifying victories here, and while Bouzkova holds the ranking edge and hard-court pedigree, the American’s current form could make this a tight battle that she edges.
Prediction: Townsend in 3
Francesca Jones vs Kayla Day
Head–to–Head: First Meeting
Qualifier Kayla Day meets unseeded Francesca Jones in a first-round clash in California, their first meeting since the Wimbledon Girls Championships in 2016, where Day edged a three-set battle. A decade on, they arrive in California via very different paths. Day, now 26, battled through qualifying with two straight-set wins and carries strong momentum this season, having won 14 of her 17 matches, albeit mostly on the ITF circuit.
Jones, ranked around #90 and making her Indian Wells debut, has played sparingly in 2026. The Brit’s best run came in Auckland, where she beat Emma Navarro en route to the semifinals before retiring. Since then, results have been thin. With Day already dialled in after qualifying, this opener could hinge on whether Jones can quickly rediscover her early-season rhythm, but we think the American wins this one.
Prediction: Day in 3
Antonia Ruzic vs Jennifer Brady
Head–to–Head: First Meeting
Antonia Ruzic arrived at the Dubai Tennis Championships carrying little momentum after four straight defeats and an early exit in qualifying. But the Croatian turned her luck around as a lucky loser, stringing together four wins to reach her second quarterfinal of the season and her first at a WTA 1000. The 22-year-old even pushed Elina Svitolina to the brink, taking the opening set before falling in three. Now, Ruzic looks to ride that surge of confidence into another strong week.
Standing across the net is Jennifer Brady, the 2021 Australian Open finalist, who is only just beginning her comeback after more than two years away from the Tour. Brady recently returned to the ITF circuit in San Diego, reaching the semifinals, but she currently sits outside the Top 700 and is still rebuilding match fitness. On current form and rhythm, this shapes up as a favourable first-round opportunity for Ruzic.
Prediction: Ruzic in 3
Katerina Siniakova vs Sofia Kenin
Head–to–Head: First Meeting
Katerina Siniakova has produced flashes of quality early in the season but has yet to string together back-to-back wins or move beyond the second round of any tournament. Her most recent outing came in Dubai, where she pushed Paula Badosa in a high-level straight-sets defeat, a performance that hinted her game is close to clicking.
Standing in her way is Sofia Kenin, who arrives here searching for answers, having lost her last six matches and owns just one win in 2026, continuing the slump that began late last season and pushed her outside the Top 40.
If Siniakova can hold comfortably early and keep the pressure on, she’ll fancy her chances, but this should be a bounce-back spot for the American, who will be buoyed by home support.
Prediction: Kenin in 3
