Connor Green and Mari Baldwin both picked up victories on day one of the WTT Feeder Dusseldorf in Germany.
Green (WR 258) is the highest-ranked player in qualifying and was largely untroubled by Belgium’s Per Gevers (WR 784). He will face Edouard Valenet of Philippines (WR 737) in his final group match on Tuesday.
Wong (WR 524) overcame unranked Danielle Kelly of Wales in three straight in her first match but was then beaten in three by Yuka Kaneyoshi (WR 224) of Japan, the top-ranked player in qualifying. She faces Lorena Morsch (WR 584) of Germany in her final group match today.
Wong and Green are aiming to join four other English players in the main draw. Tom Jarvis (WR 65) is fifth seed in the Men’s Singles and has a bye into the Round of 32, while Sam Walker (WR 221) will play a qualifier in the last 64.
In the Women’s Singles, Tin-Tin Ho (WR 179) has been drawn to face Romania’s Adina Diaconu (WR 163) in the Round of 64. Mari Baldwin (WR 544) has a wildcard and will face a qualifier.
Walker & Green are third seeds in the Men’s Doubles, while Ho & Anna Hursey are fourth seeds in the Women’s Doubles and Ho & Green are third seeds in the Mixed.
Hursey is top seed in the Women’s Singles and partners Norways Borgar Haug in the Mixed, while also playing in Dusseldorf is Jersey’s Hannah Silcock, who will play doubles with Wong and who also won her first singles match yesterday.
