Chinese opponents proved to be England’s nemesis at the WTT Youth Contender Luxembourg.
In the Under-19 Mixed Doubles, Jakub Piwowar & Sienna Jetha picked up two good wins to reach the quarter-finals, where their run was ended by Chinese duo Chen Yizhou & Xiang Junlin in four games.
Max Radiven & Hannah Silcock, who were second seeds, lost to Xu Minghao & Zhao Wangqi, also of China, in the Round of 16.
Radiven was also second seed in the Under-17 Boys’ Singles but was drawn against Xu Minghao again in the last 16 and was beaten in three. In the same competition, Pablo Ramirez Rioja (pictured above) reached the last 32, going out to Ukraine’s Volodymyr Nevizhyn in three.
Jetha was unable to get through the group stage of the Under-17 Girls’ Singles, being edged out 3-2 (11-6, 5-11, 4-11, 11-9, 11-9) by Maria Ruivo of Portugal having also lost to an opponent from Chinese Taipei.
Piwowar, Radiven and Jetha still have the Under-19 singles to come, while Ramirez Rioja is in the Under-15s.
