Many pro wrestlers have wrestled their final match after a long career. Although many thought that Jerry Lawler was done in the ring, he has raised of whether he has another match left in him once again.
Sean Ross Sapp reported on Fightful Select that Lawler recently mentioned the possibility of returning to the ring. While Lawler did not commit to anything, the idea alone caught attention given his health history.
According to Sapp, a WWE source who worked with Lawler for years was clear about where the company stands on the matter. The source said there is “zero percent chance WWE clears him,” meaning any potential return would have to happen outside of WWE.
Jerry “The King” Lawler has been open about his recovery following a stroke he suffered. In a recent interview, he explained how the medical emergency happened while he was alone in Florida and how help arrived after contacting Lauren McBride, who still holds medical power of attorney.
“I was in Florida by myself and woke one morning and everything was messed up. I called Lauren [McBride] to come down from Memphis and get me in the hospital.”
Despite the setback, Jerry Lawler has continued to make public appearances and attend autograph signings. While he admitted he is not at full strength, he said he has not completely closed the door on wrestling again.
“The King’s not quite back in the ring… but I’ve not put it out of my mind. One more match… in there… somewhere.”
Lawler also spoke about reconnecting with his faith during his recovery and how it has shaped his outlook moving forward.
“All my life, I feel like I’ve been taken care of. I’m taking care of by Jesus… so I don’t worry about dying or anything like that.”
Whether Jerry Lawler ever competes again remains uncertain. What is clear is that if it happens, it would not be under the WWE umbrella, leaving the possibility open elsewhere if his health allows it.
