WWE’s plans for Penta at WrestleMania 42 may already be taking shape — and the current expectation points to a familiar match format.
During a Q&A session on March 16, 2026, WrestleVotes was asked about what could be planned for the WWE Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 42. According to the report, the current expectation is that the title will once again be defended in a multi-man match similar to last year’s event.
“As far as the Intercontinental Title goes, it’s expected to be a multi-man match. The Intercontinental Title has three or four guys in it, much like last year.”
If those plans hold, it would mirror WrestleMania 41, where the Intercontinental Championship was contested in a multi-competitor bout instead of a traditional singles match.
Penta currently holds the Intercontinental Championship after defeating Dominik Mysterio on the March 2, 2026 episode of Monday Night RAW. He successfully retained the title the following week on the March 9 edition of RAW against El Grande Americano. With Penta already feuding with El Grande Americano, there is a strong possibility that rivalry could carry over into WrestleMania. If WWE does move forward with a multi-man match, both Americano and other challengers could easily be added to the lineup.
With WrestleMania 42 approaching, the idea of a multi-man Intercontinental Championship match could create a solid fast-paced match featuring several of WWE’s top stars — and Penta may end up defending the title against multiple challengers on the biggest stage of the year.
What do you think about WWE possibly booking a multi-man match for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 42? Would you rather see Penta defend the title in a singles match or a bigger multi-star match? Let us know your thoughts and leave your feedback.
