Presence of a figure like Virat Kohli in the dressing room helps in boosting the confidence of the side’s younger players and if he gives a pep talk to them, then that is even better. Something similar happened with pacer Yash Dayal who joined IPL franchise, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) last season after a difficult season with his previous franchise Gujarat Titans. The Bengaluru-based franchise splashed INR 5 crore to sign the left-arm pacer last season.
This move however raised many eyebrows as Dayal had underperformed the season prior and thus, many predicted for him to turn out to be a flop signing for RCB. However, Dayal managed to turn the tide by taking 15 wickets during the IPL season and playing a major role in RCB reaching the playoffs. He was also the highest wicket-taker for the franchise last season.
The young pacer recently revealed how Kohli boosted his morale on his arrival at RCB with a pep talk. The 26-year-old also said that the former RCB skipper is known to back the young players in the side and make them comfortable by talking to them.
“The biggest thing he (Kohli) said to me was that he will back me the whole season. He told me that I will not feel like I have come to a new place, and he backed me completely. So this was a huge boost up and he talks to the youngsters in such a very healthy way and he is nothing like what people talk about on TV. I don’t feel like that,” Dayal told Sports Tak.
