Yashasvi Jaiswal made a strong start in the fifth T20 cricket match between India and Zimbabwe on Sunday, July 15, at Harare Sports Club. The young Indian player hit two sixes in the first two balls of the game, setting a significant record in T20 cricket.
The 22-year-old left-handed batsman began India’s innings and faced Zimbabwe’s captain, Sikandar Raza, in the first over. Jaiswal showed his aggressive intent right from the first ball by hitting a big six over deep midwicket. The umpires called a no-ball for overstepping, and this encouraged Jaiswal to hit the next free delivery over the bowler’s head for another six.
In the first ball of the game, India’s score was 13/0, with Yashasvi Jaiswal achieving a new record by scoring the highest number of runs on the first legal delivery in international cricket. No player had ever scored more than ten runs on the first ball of a T20 match before.
But Sikandar Raza got the final say when he dismissed Jaiswal on the fourth ball of the same over. Jaiswal made 12 runs from five balls, and India had a difficult start in the final T20 match of their tour in Zimbabwe.
The Indian team also lost their captain, Shubman Gill, and young player Abhishek Sharma during the powerplay overs. Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag added 65 runs for the fourth wicket, helping India make a comeback, with Samson scoring a great fifty. Shivam Dube, who won the 2024 T20 World Cup, hit 26 runs off 12 balls, and India managed to set a tough target of 167/6 in 20 overs after being asked to bat first.
Jaiswal has been performing very well in all formats , scoring a total of 953 runs in 16 international games in 2024. The young player scored 36 runs in 27 balls and 93 runs in 53 balls in his first two matches against Zimbabwe. He is likely to be selected for the Indian team that will travel to Sri Lanka for a series starting on July 27.
