Yashasvi Jaiswal will rejoin the Mumbai squad for their Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Goa on December 31, marking his return to domestic cricket after a short illness layoff.
Mumbai Cricket Association secretary Unmesh Khanvilkar confirmed that Jaiswal will link up with the team either on December 29 evening or December 30 morning, ahead of the New Year’s Eve fixture at the Anantam Ground.
The left-handed opener missed Mumbai’s first two matches in Jaipur after being hospitalised earlier this month with stomach cramps caused by acute gastroenteritis. He has since recovered fully and is ready to take the field.
With Jaiswal back, Mumbai are expected to make a change at the top of the order. Rohit Sharma opened the batting in the first two games, but Jaiswal is likely to reclaim his usual opening slot against Goa.
“Yashaswi will play in the game against Goa, which is the one happening on December 31. He will be joining the team either on 29th evening or 30th morning,” Khanvilkar told IANS on Sunday.
Jaiswal’s return comes on the back of a big moment in his international career. He recently scored his maiden ODI hundred, an unbeaten 116, in the series decider against South Africa, where India sealed a nine-wicket win in Visakhapatnam.
However, his stay in the Vijay Hazare Trophy could be brief. Jaiswal’s availability beyond the Goa match will depend on India’s squad selection for the ODI series against New Zealand, which begins on January 11 in Vadodara.
Mumbai have enjoyed a strong start to their Vijay Hazare campaign under captain Shardul Thakur. They opened with convincing wins over Sikkim and Uttarakhand and will face Chhattisgarh after the Goa clash.
With form, confidence, and fitness on his side, Jaiswal’s return adds further strength to Mumbai’s title push while keeping one eye firmly on India duty.
