Yorkshire’s emerging leg-spinner Holly Garton claimed three wickets and Rebecca Duckworth hit 37 against her former county, but their performances weren’t enough to prevent a Roses 50-over defeat to Lancashire in Potchefstroom today.

This was a weather-affected clash between two counties who were winners in last year’s Metro Bank One-Day Cup; Lancashire in Tier 1 and Yorkshire in Tier 2.

Lightning intervened with the Red Rose on 281-4 from 41 overs, and the White Rose then chased a revised target of 165 in 20 overs, finishing on 119-8.

Academy spinner Garton’s trio of wickets were supplemented by one for ex-Lancashire seamer Hannah Rainey.

Opener Eve Jones top-scored with 96 for Lancashire.

Fi Morris also had a good day with 66 not out before striking three times with her off-spin to stifle the Yorkshire reply.

Duckworth opened the batting alongside Erin Thomas and top-scored for a side captained by Maddie Ward. Ellie Nightingale, from number three, was next best with 19.

The two counties meet again on Saturday.

This was Yorkshire’s first outing on tour and Lancashire’s penultimate fixture.
