Yuvraj Singh & Harbhajan Singh Criticized by Paralympic Community for Insensitive WCL Celebration

A recent video featuring Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, and Suresh Raina has caused controversy after it went viral on social media. The footage shows the cricket legends celebrating their victory in the World Championship of Legends (WCL) by dancing to the popular song ‘Tauba Tauba’ from the movie Bad Newz. The dance, which included limping movements, was intended to humorously illustrate the physical strain they endured during the tournament.

Harbhajan Singh captioned the video: “Body ki Tauba Tauba ho Gayi in 15 days legends cricket.. Every part of the body is sore. Straight competition to our brothers @vickykaushal09 @karanaujla our version of Tauba Tauba dance. What a SONG.”

However, the Indian Paralympic community found the video offensive. Para-swimmer Shams Aalam criticized the cricketers, stating, “Harbhajan, Yuvraj, and other respected team members. We understand that body pain after events or practice, but the way you guys are expressing it on social media is making fun of the disabled community, which is not acceptable. I know my comments will not affect you and your team members, but imagine if something happens like this with one of your close ones. Will you still express your pain in this way? We all respect you guys. Hopefully, you guys will understand and act accordingly.”

Paralympic India echoed Aalam’s sentiments, calling the behavior “disgusting and insensitive.” They issued a statement saying, “Behavior is disgusting & insensitive. As star celebrity cricket players, they have a responsibility to set a positive example. Mimicking the movements of individuals with disabilities, using derogatory gestures, and making fun of their physical limitations is not just a joke—it is a form of discrimination. It is time for them to apologize for their actions.”

The incident followed the India Champions’ victory over Pakistan Champions, where they chased down a target of 157 runs, led by a strong performance from Ambati Rayudu.

The controversy has sparked a discussion on the responsibilities of public figures and the impact of their actions on different communities. As of now, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, and Suresh Raina have not issued any statements or apologies regarding the incident.
