Zaheer Khan all set to be appointed as Mentor of the Lucknow Super Giants

The Lucknow Super Giants are planning to hire former Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan as their mentor before the big IPL auction. This will be Zaheer’s comeback to the IPL scene after a two-year break, as he previously worked with the Mumbai Indians, who have won the championship five times, from 2018 to 2022.

An official announcement is planned at the RPSG Group Headquarters on Wednesday.

“Zaheer has been chosen as the team’s mentor, and the announcement will be made later today,” sources told PTI.

Zaheer will now fill the position that was left open by Gautam Gambhir the previous year. Gambhir left to join his old team, Kolkata Knight Riders, and helped them win the IPL championship in 2024. Gambhir is now the head coach for the Indian team.

Zaheer started at Mumbai Indians as the director of cricket and later became the head of global development.

LSG no longer has a bowling coach since the South African fast bowler, Morne Morkel, left to join Gambhir’s coaching team.

We have learned that Zaheer will participate in talent scouting and player development programs during the offseason.

Before becoming a coach, Zaheer played for three different teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL) – Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Delhi Daredevils.

During his 10 seasons in the IPL, Zaheer played in 100 games and took 102 wickets with an average cost of 7.58 runs per over.

His last game in the IPL was in 2017 when he led the Delhi Daredevils as captain, after which he stopped playing cricket altogether.

The Lucknow Super Giants have Justin Langer as their head coach, with the Australian taking over from Andy Flower before the last IPL season. Langer will continue to work with his assistants Lance Klusener and Adam Voges.
