Zverev vs. Tiafoe, Auger-Aliassime vs. Fils

The first quarterfinal spots at the Indian Wells Masters will be handed out on Tuesday, when a couple of all-seeded showdowns are on the schedule. It’s Alexander Zverev vs. Frances Tiafoe and Felix Auger-Aliassime vs. Arthur Fils.

(21) Frances Tiafoe vs. (4) Alexander Zverev

Zverev and Tiafoe will be facing each other for the 10th time in their careers when they collide in round four of the BNP Paribas Open on Tuesday. The head-to-head series is being completely dominated by Zverev 8-1, and he has won six in a row since Tiafoe’s lone win came back in 2017. Although the American has been competitive at times, five of Zverev’s victories have been straight-setters. It is simply a horrible matchup for Tiafoe.

Following wins over Matteo Berrettini and Brandon Nakashima, Zverev is bidding for his third Indian Wells quarterfinal appearance. Tiafoe, who was the Acapulco runner-up a couple of weeks ago, has maintained momentum with defeats of Jenson Brooksby and Flavio Cobolli — to whom he lost in Acapulco. There is a lot of hype around this contest given Tiafoe’s level over the past few weeks, but nothing about the matchup suggests that he is in line for a victory.

Pick: Zverev in 2

(30) Arthur Fils vs. (9) Felix Auger-Aliassime

Fils’ comeback to tennis is in just its fourth tournament, but it is already in full flight. The 32nd-ranked Frenchman, who played only one event in 2025 following the French Open due to a back injury, reached the Montpellier quarterfinals and finished runner-up to Carlos Alcaraz in Doha. Fils now finds himself in the Indian Wells fourth round thanks to straight-set victories over Dino Prizmic and Marton Fucsovics.

Up next for the 21-year-old is a second meeting with Auger-Aliassime, who dominated their only previous encounter 6-4, 6-2 last month in Montpellier. Still, the indoor hard-court version of Auger-Aliassime is generally not the same as the one you see elsewhere. The world No. 9 can be very good anywhere, but it’s just a whole different level indoors. In these Indian Wells conditions, Fils has a great chance to pull off an upset. Auger-Aliassime is just 9-7 lifetime in the desert, this is only his second time past the third round, and he has never gotten past the quarters.

Pick: Fils in 3
