As noted before, Stardom stated this past January that they were considering legal action against an undisclosed company over claims of alleged intellectual property theft involving the usage and sale of photos of former Stardom wrestlers that were owned by Stardom. Marigold announced that they had recently completed an internal investigation and discovering that they had violated STARDOM’s copyright in regards to a Mayu Iwatani card collection that they had been selling for Iwatani’s 15th year anniversary of her wrestling career. Marigold owner Rossy Ogawa stated “Upon investigation, we discovered that our Representative Director, Rossy Ogawa, had used data obtained and retained in connection with his past work at Stardom Co., Ltd. in the production of the Products without Stardom Co., Ltd.’s permission. This constituted an infringement of the copyrights and publicity rights held or managed by Stardom Co., Ltd., as well as an act of unfair competition. Consequently, we have immediately ceased the manufacture and sale of the Products. Some of the cards in this product are the property of Stardom Co., Ltd., and therefore the notation ‘Marigold Co. Ltd.’ was incorrect; we hereby correct this error. We sincerely apologize to Stardom Co., Ltd. and all related parties for the significant inconvenience this matter has caused. This incident was caused solely by our company’s lack of awareness regarding intellectual property rights, and we are committed to taking measures to prevent a recurrence. In a recent interview with Post Wrestling, WrestleCon promoter Michael Bochicchio stated that he has been in talks with Conrad Thompson and other wrestling promoters about potentially holding a WrestleMania-like weekend in the United States for indies promotions due to WWE being in Saudi Arabia next year for WrestleMania 43. Bochicchio stated “If WWE stays in Saudi Arabia, my goal is to find a location, maybe New Orleans, that we can make a community of what we do here. I don’t think it necessarily has to be on Mania weekend. It can just be a weekend where myself, all the other independent promoters, I talk to people like Conrad, who does Starrcast. I think everybody wants to do a weekend where it’s ours. It’s always been next to a WWE event. I think WWE appreciates what we do. What we do and all the other promoters during the weekend do brings thousands of people, tens of thousands of room nights, maybe millions of dollars coming into the city, and you know who gets credit for bringing this money in? WWE. Do you think they don’t want this extra money to be part of their weekend? They can go to the next city and go, ‘Look how much money we brought to this city.’ They built up this monster and it all contributes for the greater good.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
