2026 FIFA World Cup Group C Preview

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is less than two weeks away, and the 12 groups are set ahead of the newly expanded 48-team tournament.

The 2026 edition of the FIFA World Cup, hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, marks the first time the historic tournament has expanded from 32 to 48 teams. It will also feature a new Round of 32 knockout stage, resulting in a colossal 104 matches across 39 days.

Group C includes Brazil, Morocco, Haiti and Scotland. Let’s take a look at the Group C teams and see how each team is shaping up heading into the tournament.

Group C: Brazil, Morocco, Haiti, and Scotland

Brazil:

Brazil is entering the World Cup as one of the top favorites to bring home the World Cup trophy. Brazil is the most successful nation in World Cup history with five titles, but they haven’t won since 2002. Brazil will be led by Carlo Ancelotti in a World Cup for the first time. Ancelotti is the only manager in history to have won five UEFA Champions League titles. Brazil is stacked with talent from top to bottom and will be looking to prove itself after a surprising exit against Croatia in the quarterfinals of the 2022 World Cup.

Brazil’s back line will be anchored by the world-class duo of Gabriel Magalhães and Marquinhos, and they also have Alisson in goal. Their attack is what sets them apart not just from Group C, but from most teams in the tournament, with Raphinha, Vinícius Júnior and Matheus Cunha all entering the competition in great form.

The biggest news surrounding Brazil will be the return of Neymar, whose inclusion in the World Cup squad for a fourth time thrilled many fans and Brazilian players. There’s no doubt that Neymar’s return will bring experience and camaraderie to the team, but if he can return to his past form and stay healthy, Brazil could be in a great position to bring home its sixth World Cup trophy.

Morocco:

Morocco is truly one of the strongest dark-horse contenders in this year’s World Cup after its tournament success in 2022, when they defeated both Portugal and Spain before reaching the World Cup semifinals and ultimately losing a close match to France. Morocco will be determined to prove its run in 2022 wasn’t a fluke, and its 8-0 World Cup qualifying record has done plenty to support that argument so far.

Many of the heroes from Morocco’s 2022 World Cup squad return, including Achraf Hakimi, one of the best right backs in the world, and Yassine Bounou, who made a name for himself with a tournament-high four clean sheets in 2022. Morocco also has some new faces hoping to make an impact, such as Real Madrid’s Brahim Díaz and young winger Ilias Akhomach, who already has significant experience in La Liga and will be hoping to make a name for himself at this tournament.

Haiti:

Haiti are making their return to the World Cup after 52 years and are the clear underdogs in Group C. Haiti earned qualification on merit, defeating both Costa Rica, a 2014 World Cup quarterfinalist, and Nicaragua in their qualifying group to reach their first World Cup tournament since 1974.

Haiti’s Wilson Isidor, who plays striker for Sunderland, and Wolverhampton Wanderers attacking midfielder Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, who recently switched his international allegiance from France to Haiti, will both be crucial if Haiti are to pull off any upsets and advance out of a very tough Group C.

Scotland:

Although Brazil and Morocco are the most likely projected qualifiers within the group, Scotland rounds out Group C, making it one of the more dangerous groups in the tournament. Scotland is making its return to the World Cup for the first time since 1998. Scotland accomplished this in dramatic fashion, taking down Denmark in the final game of UEFA Group C and scoring two outrageous goals in extra time to secure the win and a place in the World Cup.

Scotland plays as an extremely physical and disciplined team, constantly competing for the ball and setting up set pieces and crosses, something they excel at. Scott McTominay will be a major player to watch, as he has rejuvenated his career since his club move to Napoli and will be hoping to bring his playmaking and goal-scoring ability to his country.
