“No mega auction…,” Reports make a Shocking claim

Shah Rukh Khan, part-owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders, disagreed with the idea of a large auction before the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) during a meeting of IPL team owners at the BCCI office in Mumbai on Wednesday, as reported by Cricbuzz. The report says that the famous actor from Bollywood preferred a smaller auction, which caused a disagreement with Ness Wadia, co-owner of the Punjab Kings. Shah Rukh Khan has received backing from Kavya Maran, the owner of the Sunrisers Hyderabad. In a statement to Cricbuzz after the meeting, Maran opposed the idea of a big IPL auction.

“Building a team takes a lot of time, and it also requires a lot of time and investment for younger players to develop. It took Abhishek Sharma three years to consistently perform well. There are many similar cases in other teams as well,” she mentioned.

The Kolkata Knight Riders won the IPL championship in 2024, with the Sunrisers Hyderabad coming in second.

In the meantime, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that it will consider the suggestions from all ten IPL team owners and present them to the tournament’s governing council. This will help in setting the rules for players before the 2025 IPL season begins.

The BCCI organized a meeting with all ten team owners at their office in Mumbai on Wednesday night. During this meeting, they talked about big auctions, keeping players, the rule for a special player, and other topics.

“On Wednesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India held a productive meeting with the owners of the 10 teams involved in the upcoming TATA IPL season. They discussed several topics related to the new season.

The team owners shared their thoughts on rules about players and other business-related issues, such as selling team merchandise, licensing, and gaming.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah mentioned that the board will now consider these suggestions and present them to the IPL Governing Council for more discussion and review. After that, they will decide on the new rules for IPL players,” said BCCI Secretary Jay Shah.
