Australia Picks Indian-Origin Leg-Spinner Ramkumar for U19 India Tour

Australia has announced its 16-member squad for the upcoming Men’s Under-19 tour of India, set to take place in September. Among the notable selections is Vishwa Ramkumar, a leg-spinner of Indian origin, who represents Victoria in age-group cricket and is affiliated with Dandenong Cricket Club. This tour marks the beginning of a new Men’s U19 World Cup cycle for Australia, following their victorious campaign at the 2024 ICC Men’s Under-19 World Cup in South Africa, where they defeated India in the final.

Promising Talent in the Squad

The squad features two members from the U19 World Cup-winning team, Aidan O’Connor and Ollie Peake, who were retained due to their eligibility. Peake, who played a crucial role in Australia’s World Cup victory by scoring pivotal runs in the semi-final and final, will be a key player during the India tour.

Significance of the Tour

The upcoming series against India includes three 50-over matches and two four-day games, providing a valuable opportunity for the young Australian cricketers to adapt to different playing conditions. Sonya Thompson, Cricket Australia’s Head of National Development, emphasized the importance of this tour in developing the next generation of Australian cricketers.

“It is exciting to commence a new World Cup cycle and provide the next generation of emerging talent with the opportunity to represent Australia at the international level. The upcoming India tour will give a new squad of players the chance to play a multi-format series and challenge them to adapt to different conditions outside of Australia,” said Thompson.
