Daniel Cormier says Jon Jones’ arthritis ‘leak’ sends big signal about potential UFC comeback

Daniel Cormier believes his former foe Jon Jones knew exactly what he was doing in revealing his arthritis in leaked footage.

Former UFC two-division champion Jon Jones hit a big speed bump in his pursuit of a potential comeback fight later this year. In a leaked conversation with two fans while at a Dirty Boxing event in Houston, Jones revealed he has severe hip arthritis that is standing in the way of a potential return to fighting.

Jones later went on to downplay his arthritis in follow-up comments posted to social media, and criticized one of the fans for secretly filming their conversation. Jones wants to return to the Octagon later this year at the upcoming White House event, potentially against Alex Pereira.

But Daniel Cormier, Jones’s longtime adversary, believes Jones knew exactly what he was doing in revealing his current ailments.

Daniel Cormier: Jon Jones arthritis comments part of bigger message on future

In a recent video uploaded to his YouTube channel, Cormier weighed in on Jones’s recent remarks about his future.

“Here’s where I have a little bit of an issue with [Jon’s comments],” Cormier began.

“It’s very easy to tell if you’re being recorded with the Meta glasses. Hard to hide that you’re being recorded with Meta glasses, if you’re in close proximity with the person…how could he have missed that? It’s hard to not be aware in those situations, when you’ve lived a lifetime in the public eye. When you’ve been in the public eye, you build this sixth sense as to when people are recording you.

“I think Jon Jones knew what he was doing, and that he wanted people to know he’s injured,” Cormier continued on Jones. “And I believe he’s hurt – and that was the video that made me believe that Jon Jones doesn’t have anything left.”

Cormier and Jones briefly teased a potential trilogy showdown in either boxing or wrestling, but those plans appear to be on the shelf for now. In the meantime, Jones’ future fighting plans remain cloudy.
