Backstage News On How Andrade El Idolo’s Work Has Been Received In AEW

Sean Ross Sapp discussed Andrade El Idolo’s recent work in AEW during the latest edition of Fightful Select Answers, responding to a fan’s question about how well he has been received since his return to the promotion last month.

According to Sapp, El Idolo’s work has been “very well” received backstage in the company since his return to television. He also noted that there have been no issues behind the scenes with El Idolo, who previously faced challenges during his earlier run in AEW, including a notable incident with Sammy Guevara.

Sapp explained that AEW had anticipated El Idolo’s re-signing with the company before his exit in late 2023. This expectation led AEW President and CEO Tony Khan to maintain a positive relationship with El Idolo, as he believed there was a strong possibility that El Idolo would return to AEW. Sapp added that Khan sees “big things” in El Idolo’s potential, which is why he was ultimately brought back.

El Idolo’s return to AEW recently featured a singles match against former AEW World Champion Kenny Omega on Dynamite, where El Idolo secured a significant victory. He is set to head to Japan later today, February 11, for a major match against Gabe Kidd at NJPW’s The New Beginning in Osaka. The winner of this match will go on to challenge Yota Tsuji for the IWGP Global Heavyweight Title at NJPW The New Beginning USA on Friday, February 27.
