Pros react after Justin Gaethje stops Ilia Topuria at UFC Freedom 250

Tonight’s UFC Freedom 250 event was headlined by a lightweight title fight featuring Ilia Topuria taking on current interim champ Justin Gaethje.

Topuria (17-1 MMA) wasreturning to action for the first time since violently knocking out Charles Oliveira in the first-round of their title fight at UFC 317 in June of last year. Prior to that triumph, ‘El Matador’ was coming off back-to-back knockout wins over Max Holloway and Alex Volkanovski respectively.

Meanwhile, Justin Gaethje (28-5 MMA) was most previously seen in action this past January at UFC 324, where he scored a unanimous decision win over Paddy Pimblett to claim the promotion‘s interim lightweight title. Prior to that victory, ‘The Highlight’ had earned a decision win over Rafael Fiziev.

Tonight’s UFC Freedom 250 main event proved to be a thrilling back and forth war. Ilia Topuria had Justin Gaethje in all sorts of trouble in rounds one and two. However, ‘The Highlight’ survived the early onslaught and was able to rock ‘El Matador’ with a right hand late in round three. From there, Gaethje took over and eventually forced Topuria to quit on the stool at the end of round four.
