England captain Harry Brook lauded the West Indies team for putting on a brilliant all-round performance to win the 15th match of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 by 30 runs.
Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Brook said that the target of 197 was achievable.
“Yeah, a little bit disappointing. Obviously, it’s never nice to lose a game, but West Indies played outstandingly. Everybody knows how much power they’ve got. If you’re slightly off your line or length, they can hit it for six. Yeah, we probably thought it was chaseable, for sure. It probably didn’t come on as much as we were expecting. It didn’t skid on to the bat as much as we were expecting. And yeah, we thought we had a chance, definitely,” he said.
England won the toss and sent West Indies in to bat. Sherfane Rutherford dominated England’s bowlers with seven sixes and scored an unbeaten 76 off 42 balls at a strike rate of 180.95. His innings helped West Indies post 196/6.
In reply, England could not build a single substantial partnership, and the West Indies bowlers kept taking wickets at regular intervals. England were bowled out for 166 in the 19th over. West Indies’ spinners bowled well, with Gudakesh Motie taking three wickets while Roston Chase finished with two.
Despite the loss, Brook remains confident about their qualification for the next round.
“Yeah, definitely. You have to be confident in this game. Yeah, obviously, thank God we won against Nepal the other night, otherwise we’d be in a tricky situation. But we play Scotland and Italy next, and yeah, we’ve just got to go back, do our homework on them, get back to basics and see how we go,” he added.
