KANSAS CITY, Kan. (February 9, 2026) — Undefeated Kansas boxing standout Marco “El Tiburón” Romero (11-0, 10 KOs) is heading to the Orlando area—but not for warm weather, fresh seafood, or theme parks.

Instead, the rising star from Olathe, Kansas will compete in an eight-round super middleweight bout against Chown Sims (10-2, 5 KOs) of Mississippi on February 19. The fight takes place on the “Champions Against Domestic Violence” card, presented by Christy Martin Promotions, at the Hilton Hotel in Altamonte Springs, Florida, just 11 miles north of Orlando.

A Rapid Rise in the Pro Ranks

At just 20 years old, Romero has already built an impressive résumé. A 23-time national amateur champion, he has translated that success seamlessly into the professional ranks, quickly earning a reputation as one of the Midwest’s most dangerous young prospects.

Romero enters the bout riding an eight-fight knockout streak, with his only decision victory coming in a four-round unanimous decision against seasoned veteran Marcelo Fabian Bzowski on September 13, 2024, in Tampa—Romero’s third professional fight.

A Cause Bigger Than Boxing

Romero expressed pride in being part of an event that goes beyond competition.

“It’s truly an honor to be fighting on a card promoted by the legendary Christy Martin,” Romero said. “I feel it’s bigger than just another boxing show because it’s for ‘Champions Against Domestic Violence’ awareness and support. It’s using platforms to protect, uplift, and give those a voice and safety when needed.”

Martin, a Hall of Famer and women’s boxing pioneer, continues to use her platform to promote awareness and support for survivors of domestic violence.

First Fight of 2026 After a Busy Year

The February 19 bout marks Romero’s first fight of 2026, following an active 2025 campaign in which he fought seven times. Originally scheduled to compete on February 21 in Miami, the bout was later moved to Altamonte Springs.

“It doesn’t bother me at all,” Romero noted. “I’m ready to fight anybody, anywhere; all is good. I’ve never fought in Orlando. I’ve been there to Universal but this is an all business trip. We’ll just be in and out for the fight.”

Trainer Praises Romero’s Focus and Drive

Romero is guided by his longtime manager and head trainer, John Brown, who sees steady growth in his young fighter.

“Marco’s obsession for perfection seems to grow with every passing month,” Brown commented, “which will enable him to meet his team’s expectations with this upcoming bout on February 19th and his main event fight on March 20th (in Independence, Missouri).”

Chown Sims Brings Experience and Toughness

Sims enters the fight with valuable experience and has faced quality opposition. His eight-fight winning streak was snapped last September by undefeated light heavyweight prospect Atif Oberlton (14-0, 12 KOs), a two-time National Golden Gloves champion.

“He (Sims) has been in with a lot of good fighters,” Romero noted. “I know Oberlton. We were in the amateurs at the same time. We’ll find out what my opponent is made of when he gets in the ring with me on February 19th.”

A Free Agent With Big Goals

Romero currently remains a promotional free agent, making 2026 a critical year for his career trajectory. Despite the stakes, he insists the pressure hasn’t increased.

“No added pressure on me because I’m fortunate to have goals,” Romero concluded. “My goals are to sign with a big promoter, fight on bigger stages against bigger names, eventually fighting for a world title on a show back home in Kansas City. I ended last year strong and I want to start 2026 by making a statement to put the middleweight division on notice that (‘El Tiburón’) is coming.”

Conclusion

With knockout power, elite amateur pedigree, and growing national attention, Marco “El Tiburón” Romero enters 2026 ready to take the next step toward stardom. His February 19 clash against Chown Sims represents another opportunity to make a statement—both inside the ring and as part of a cause that extends far beyond boxing.
