The Miami Dolphins will be releasing superstar wide receiver Tyreek Hill.

News of Tyreek Hill’s release dominated the NFL world on February 16, and it didn’t take long for many to connect the superstar wide receiver to his former team, the Kansas City Chiefs.

Not long after, Chiefs superstar defensive lineman Chris Jones added some fuel to the fire with a public message on X.

@cheetah it’s ⏰,” Jones wrote, tagging Hill in the post.

Although Jones’ use of an emoji masks his exact words, the clear message here is: “It’s time.” Considering the clock emoji is generally utilized in place of the word “time.”

Is a reunion in the cards for Hill and the Chiefs?

Tyreek Hill Guarantees NFL Return After Dolphins Release

Hill didn’t just get released; he’s also recovering from a gruesome leg injury. For that reason, his NFL future remains very much in doubt.

Having said that, Hill guaranteed his NFL return shortly after his Miami Dolphins release.

“The Journey Don’t Stop,” Hill wrote on Instagram. “From the bottom of my heart, thank you to the entire @miamidolphins organization, my teammates, the staff, and most importantly, Fins Nation, for an unforgettable 4 years.”

After thanking Miami and the Dolphins fanbase some more, Hill went on.

“The journey doesn’t stop here…” He added. “Every chapter in life has taught me something. This one taught me leadership, resilience, and mostly gratitude. The love I have for this game is unexplainable. And right now, this offseason, for the first time ever, The Cheetah is all the way turned up and locked in. Focused. The Cheetah don’t slow down. Ever.”

“So to everyone wondering what’s next… just wait on it,” Hill concluded. “The Cheetah will be back…Born Again.”

Does Tyreek Hill Actually Make Sense for Chiefs Amid Reunion Rumors?

Hill’s Kansas City return has been discussed for years, and now that it’s finally possible, there are still several hurdles to clear.

For starters, the Chiefs’ financial situation is less than ideal, so Hill would have to be willing to sign for a hometown discount. And as KC fans know, “the Cheetah” has never been one to take less money.

Over the Cap currently estimates that the Chiefs are nearly $55 million in the negative. On the bright side, their dead cap number is minimal, at just $215,641, so general manager Brett Veach has plenty of avenues to free up room.

Still, KC must clear $55 million just to get into the positive, plus another $25 million or so to operate in NFL free agency. Would they really spend a large portion of their limited cap space on a soon-to-be 32-year-old who is recovering from a major injury?

Now, if Hill chooses to sign on the cheap, that changes everything. However, there’s no reason to believe that he’ll do that.

Add in Hill’s constant off-the-field problems, not to mention the fact that he may not even be ready for the early portion of the 2026 campaign, and there are multiple reasons that this reunion may not come to pass.

For now, after the worst season of the Patrick Mahomes era, the Chiefs must operate in the realm of guarantees. Hill is not that, and all of these complications throw some cold water on any reunion fires.
