Bully Ray has always been known to give his unfiltered opinion on the happenings in the wrestling world, and recently, Dave Meltzer’s controversial take on Booker T came to his notice.
In the newest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, longtime journalist Meltzer released his annual year-end awards. One result caused a big reaction- Booker T was voted 2025’s “Worst Television Announcer.”
The readers determine the winners of the awards via their votes. Booker T received 516 votes in that category, finishing ahead of commentators like Pat McAfee, Michael Cole, Vic Joseph, and Tony Schiavone.
Apart from fans, fellow wrestling professionals, colleagues, and even AEW star MJF spoke up on social media to defend Booker T.
Bully Ray Responds To Fallout From Booker T Criticism
On the Busted Open Radio podcast, Bully Ray strongly defended Booker T. He said he respects Booker’s work on WWE NXT and questioned the idea of giving out awards for the “worst” in wrestling.
“I’m not gonna sugarcoat anything. I came out with my Bully Ray end of the year awards, and guess who won for most poisonous, cancerous, bottom-feeding piece of crap who’s never taken a bump in his life- guess who won that award? The same guy who gave the award to Booker T,” Ray said.
Ray didn’t hold back. He accused Dave Meltzer of hurting the business. He even told him to shut down his newsletter.
“You know who’s the worst? Dave Meltzer. He’s the worst. He’s the worst at everything in pro wrestling. You’re the worst, Dave. The worst. You poison the business. You’re no good. Delete your account, delete your newsletter. You’re the worst, Dave, how’s that?” Ray continued.
The legendary wrestler also criticized Meltzer’s recent reporting. He pointed to a story claiming Warner Bros. Discovery kept Brody King off an episode of AEW Dynamite amid anti-ICE drama, something WBD later denied. For Ray, it was proof that Meltzer’s reporting has become unreliable.
“Everything that he does is ridiculous. And lately, the old f*cker has been botching his news, his reports, his backstage news, his stooge reports. Get a life. Get out of the wrestling business and whatever you’ve milked from it, you cancer. You lesion,” Ray said.
Meltzer’s newsletter has been influential for many years, but many in the business feel it can be overly negative or biased. With big names joining the discussion, it seems like the argument between the wrestling world and the people who cover it isn’t going away anytime soon.
