Sanju Samson returned to form with a brilliant unbeaten century to help Chennai Super Kings (CSK) post a strong total of 212/2 against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on April 11 in IPL 2026.

After losing captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (15) early, Samson anchored CSK’s innings and brought up his century in 52 balls. It was his fourth IPL century, his first since 2021 and the first player to score a ton in this season. He remained unbeaten on 115 off 56 balls. His knock was laced with 15 boundaries and four maximums, coming at a strike rate of 205.35. He also stitched a crucial 113-run stand with young batter Ayush Mhatre, who was retired out for 59.

Speaking to the broadcasters after his knock, Samson said, “Feels great. To be honest, whatever form you are in, the matches you have won for your country, a couple of failures put doubts in your mind. Wanted to stick to the basics, was thinking about whether I should go harder. Stuck to (what I do), and thankfully it came off.”

The knock was significant for Samson as he had struggled earlier this season. The wicketkeeper-batter had scored just 22 runs in his previous three matches after being traded from Rajasthan Royals (RR) to CSK for INR 18 crore ahead of this season’s auction.

Reflecting on the pitch and his partnership with Mhatre, he added, “It got a great wicket to bat on. Had a great partnership with Ayush – amazing to bat with him. We wanted to put up as much of a big score on the board. We had a long batting order, so was about picking your bowlers and contributing. A challenging score. If we have a good powerplay, it will be very good.”
