Designed not merely to meet expectations but to ignite true excitement, the 1500 line captures the most current demands from the global MTB community. Upgrading the EXC 1500 CLASSIC to ASTM 5 sharpens and simplifies our wheel category structure in the categories Cross Country (XRC), All Mountain (XMC), Enduro (EXC) and Hybrid (HXC).
THE RIM
Aligning modern mountain bike requirements with the latest technology standards makes one thing clear: asymmetric rims, a 30 mm inner width, and front-/rear-specific layering designs are essential for each wheel of our 1500 series.
PURE CARBON TECHNOLOGY
A pioneering rim manufacturing process and full layer-by-layer inspection deliver lightweight rims built for lasting performance. And of course, the new wheels go further than their precursor, using continuous carbon layers that reinforce the rim horns for maximum impact resistance.
DEGREES OF FREEDOM
Our state-of-the-art DF Technology is now fully integrated into the carbon wheelsets (excluding XRC). It’s the straightforward solution to every pedal kickback question. And the best part? It’s tool-free to adjust, low maintenance, and adds zero extra weight. Just a radically simplified anti-pedal kickback system.
SIMPLIFIED ADJUSTABILITY
The new DF technology is an anti-pedal kickback device simplified to the max. Retrofittable to all Ratchet DEG freehub systems and lighter than other solutions, just replace the hubs threaded ring and the two ratchets to enjoy three different degrees of freehub movement: 0, 10 and 20 degrees.
DF = 0 degrees
The engagement angle of the Ratchet DEG hub is maintained, therefore not affecting the frame’s kinematic pedal kickback. The 0 degree setup could be better suited to a Cross Country practice, where freehub engagement speed is key.
DF = 10 degrees
The freehub system has 10 degrees of freedom to rotate with certainty before engaging, resulting in reduced pedal kickback. The 10 degree setup could be better suited to an All Mountain practice, where pedal kickback becomes noticeable and can be part of the bike setup.
DF = 20 degrees
The freehub system has 20 degrees of freedom to rotate with certainty before engaging, providing the greatest pedal kickback reduction in our system. The 20 degree setup could be better suited to the Enduro / Downhill practice, where pedal kickback is part of the bike setup.
THE SPOKES
With an ingenious shape from a unique blading process, which also densifies the material, it is the most durable DT Swiss spoke in its weight category. With the exception of the HXC 1500 SPLINE, which benefits from eMTB-specific spokes, every wheel in the 1500 series is equipped with our proven DT complite spokes.
HYBRID UPDATE
HYBRID SPECIFIC HUBS
The hub shell has been strengthened and the freehub body upgraded from aluminum to steel, ensuring long term durability under the higher loads of modern eMTBs.
HYBRID DEG DF TECHNOLOGY
The hybrid specific DF Technology features a 60 tooth Ratchet with two degrees of freedom, 0 or 10 degrees, allowing riders to choose between fast engagement for technical climbs or reduced pedal kickback for improved control on rough downhills.
HYBRID SPOKES
The hybrid specific spokes increase both lateral and torsional stiffness, making the wheel better suited to the higher loads of eMTBs.
