Hello, and welcome to Friday Statwatch, where we take a scoop of American scholastic lacrosse statistics and try to figure out what they mean or imply. With some of the nation’s state championships already in the past and with a number to be decided in the coming weeks, let’s take a look at an interesting statistical occurrence.
This week, we’ll take a look at a tale of two Nazareths.
The girls’ lacrosse team at Nazareth (Pa.) has been ascending slowly after the pandemic, but this year had an outstanding season. Much of the team’s 20-2 record has been paced by a freshman, Natalie Mihalko. The center has scored 72 goals on the season, but she is now amongst the nation’s leaders in assists with 84. Opposing teams in District 11 and the East Penn Conference are going to have to guard her for the next three years.
A thousand miles to the west is LaGrange Park Nazareth Academy (Ill.). A week ago, the Roadrunners finished their season with a loss to Hinsdale (Ill.) Central, but they made it to the sectional final in the IHSA Tournament. Leading the line for Nazareth Academy was Kathleen Hardy, a sophomore who poured in 145 goals, which is second in our current listings.
I think we are going to have to keep an eye on these two young women for future greatness.
Below in the red are our usual provisional gathering of American scholastic lacrosse statistics from available published sources, including MaxPreps, Berks Game Day, the KHSAA, The St. Louis Post-Dispatch, PhillyLacrosse, and Advance Media. If we can get more teams, state federations, and local leagues to adopt the easy-to-use MaxPreps.com platform, we can aim for as complete a statistical picture of the country as possible.
