ATP Barcelona Day 1 Predictions Including Norrie vs Wawrinka

The first day at the ATP 500 in Barcelona will aptly see an all-Spanish encounter between veteran Jaime Munar and his rising compatriot Rafael Jodar, fresh from his maiden title in Marrakech. Swiss veteran, Stan Wawrinka, who will be making his swansong , will also be in action. But who will advance?

ATP Barcelona Day 1 Predictions

Corentin Moutet vs Ignacio Buse

Head–to–Head: First Meeting

Corentin Moutet brings his trademark flair and unpredictability into this matchup, a player capable of turning rallies into theatre with his touch, angles, and sheer audacity. When he’s locked in, the Frenchman can frustrate opponents who prefer structure, mixing drop shots with sudden bursts of aggression. The question, as always, is consistency, Moutet’s level can spike and dip within the same set, making him both dangerous and vulnerable.

Across the net, Ignacio Buse represents the fearless next generation, still carving out his identity on tour but already showing the grit and baseline solidity to compete. This is a classic contrast, but if Moutet finds his rhythm early, expect fireworks and a long afternoon chasing shadows for the Peruvian.
Prediction: Moutet in 2

Adrian Mannarino vs Nuno Borges

Head–to–Head:  Mannarino 0 – 1 Borges

Adrian Mannarino brings his trademark flat hitting and lefty angles into this clash, looking to rush points and take time away from his opponent. The veteran can produce a frustrating night for anyone across the net.

But Nuno Borges is no easy mark. The Portuguese number one has built a reputation on solid baseline consistency and improved court craft, backed up with a solid serve. with the ability to absorb pace and counterpunch effectively.

Mannarino would be the favorite to advance on any other surface. Borges holds the ace on clay
Prediction: Borges in 2

Jaime Munar vs Rafael Jodar

Head–to–Head: First Meeting

Jaime Munar steps onto the court as the established grinder, a clay-court specialist built on endurance, consistency, and relentless baseline pressure. Opposite him, Rafael Jodar represents the unknown quantity, youthful, ambitious, and eager to disrupt the script. Munar’s experience will come to bear in this encounter eventually, but his younger compatriot Jodar has nothing to lose, and that’s where things get interesting.

Expect Munar to test the youngster’s patience, but the youngster is well-rested from his Marrakech triumph and should resume business here.
Prediction: Jodar in 3

Cameron Norrie vs Stan Wawrinka

Head–to–Head: Norrie 0 – 1 Wawrinka

Cameron Norrie will look to grind the tempo down with his heavy lefty forehand and relentless court coverage built for long, attritional exchanges. He’ll aim to drag his older opponent into physical rallies, testing both movement and patience, especially on slower surfaces where his consistency becomes a real weapon.

Across the net, Stan Wawrinka brings the firepower and the unpredictability. When the Swiss veteran is dialled in, that one-handed backhand can still rip through any defence, shortening points and flipping momentum in a flash. The question is whether Wawrinka can impose his attacking rhythm before Norrie turns it into a war of attrition. The Brit hasn’t won this match-up before, and I suspect that trend will continue here in the Swiss final appearance in Barcelona.
Prediction: Wawrinka in 3
