Sim originally joined the organization last spring on May 5, signing a one-year deal with the AHL’s Toronto Marlies. He was coming off a strong final OHL season with the London Knights, where he emerged as one of their key secondary contributors with 53 points (30 goals and 23 assists) in 54 games. Sim then added 12 goals and 15 points in 17 playoff games en route to helping the Knights capture the 2025 Memorial Cup.

His first pro season in the AHL was far from a smooth one, as he missed significant time due to a long-term injury he suffered early in the season. Sim appeared in only 13 AHL games, mustering three goals, and he registered six points (two goals and four assists) in 18 games with the ECHL’s Cincinnati Cyclones.

While the offensive production doesn’t immediately jump off the page, his true value comes from his all-around game and snarl as a physical presence. Sim made a strong impression during training camp with his physical play and willingness to drop the gloves, which has carried through in the latter half of this season once he got healthy. Although he was among the early cuts at camp, it is clear that upper management has been impressed with the progress he made and is thus rewarding him with an NHL deal.
On August 25, I wrote the following about why Sim could have been one of the players in the system who was signed to an AHL deal that could make an impression in 2025-26:

The Leafs surely must have been impressed enough to get Sim into their system in the hopes of moulding him into a bottom-six forward with snarl and a willingness to be a pest when necessary. Don’t expect him to be one of the Marlies’ leading scorers, as that hasn’t been his forte, but where his true value will lie is in how his all-around game evolves.

Sim and the Marlies are gearing up for the Calder Cup playoffs, though their first round opponent has yet to be determined at the time of filing. Meanwhile, the Leafs will wrap up the regular season on Wednesday against the Ottawa Senators.
