You might call last weekend “Laxapalooza.”
We liveblogged and featured four out of our top five in some wonderful contests. All eight of the teams we saw had quality players and coaches, and there were great backstories in each of the games; you can scroll down to late last week (or use the calendar navigation) to see our liveblogging and game stories.
This Saturday will see the Gains for Brains Showcase, and we’ll have a preview of that group of games, which serves as a fundraiser for the Making Headway Foundation.
1. Lutherville Maryvale Prep (Md.) 13-0
The Lions pulled away from Ellicott City Glenelg (Md.) Country School in the last three quarters in a 19-6 win; an important game with Severn Archbishop Spalding (Md.) awaits Friday
2. Manchester (Md.) Valley 8-0
The Mustangs had a terrific effort from Taylor Fique in a 17-7 win over Westminster (Md.) last Thursday; they have their next three games at home, including today against Sykesville Century (Md.)
3. Darien (Conn.) 7-0
The Blue Wave got the needed goals from captains Anna Von Kennel and Cameron Pokorny in a 9-8 win over Brooklandville St. Paul’s (Md.); they will play Saturday in the Gains for Brains Showcase against Bayport-Blue Point (N.Y.)
4. South Huntington St. Anthony’s (N.Y.) 5-1
The Friars, will also be at the Gains for Brains showcase, taking on Nyack (N.Y.) at 3 p.m. at Cold Spring Harbor (N.Y.)
5. Tredyffrin Conestoga (Pa.) 12-0
The Pioneers managed to get a goal from Lu Misener with five seconds to go in a defeat of Radnor Archbishop Carroll (Pa.) last Saturday
6. Philadelphia Penn Charter (Pa.) 11-2
The Quakers beat Fort Washington Germantown Academy (Pa.) 16-6 last week; a Thursday game with Villanova Academy of Notre Dame de Namur (Pa.) looms large for this team’s destiny
7. Alexandria St. Stephen’s/St. Agnes (Va.) 16-0
The Saints took down Charlottesville St. Anne’s Belfield (Va.) 8-7 last Thursday; today’s game against Washington Georgetown Visitation (D.C.) is their only contest of the week
8. Sayville (N.Y.) 8-0
A big week for the Golden Flash, taking on Eastport-South Manor (N.Y.) today and West Islip (N.Y.) on Thursday
9. Olney Good Counsel (Md.) 12-1
The Falcons have held three of their opponents to one goal or fewer; a stern test awaits this Thursday against Sacred Heart Greenwich (Conn.) in a game slated for United Stadium at Towson University
10. Greenwich Sacred Heart (Conn.) 5-2
The Saints will have a Maryland road trip this week; a Thursday game at Towson University to play Olney Good Counsel (Md.) and a Friday game with Towson Notre Dame Prep (Md.)
Who’s out: Garden City (N.Y.) 10-9 loss to Darien (Conn.); Ridgewood (N.J.) 12-6 loss to Greenwich Sacred Heart (Conn.); Nyack (N.Y.) 11-10 loss to Wilton (Conn.)
