Mets end losing streak in Juan Soto’s return, lose other star to injury

The New York Mets could finally exhale when Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton swung and missed on a Luke Weaver changeup for the third out in the top of the ninth inning.

Weaver locked down the save as the Mets broke their 12-game losing streak, beating the Twins 3-2. Infielder Mark Vientos’ base hit to right in the bottom of the eighth inning to score Brett Baty proved to be the difference as Vientos atoned for an egregious baserunning error when he was thrown out at home to end the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Mets had another reason to celebrate on Wednesday as outfielder Juan Soto returned from the injured list. He was 1-for-3 with a walk and was picked off of first in the bottom of the eighth inning.

New York Mets have potential loss in victory

The Mets’ victory came with a price. Shortstop Francisco Lindor departed Wednesday’s game after the fourth inning due to injury. Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reported that Lindor was removed due to left calf tightness and will presumably undergo testing in the near future.
