Norwich City have made a bid for Frosinone’s Fares Ghedjemis, after the forward rejected a move to Celtic in the January transfer window.
Norwich keep play-off hopes alive with victory against Derby
Norwich still have a very remote chance of reaching the play-offs, as they are sitting six points adrift of sixth-place Wrexham with two games left to play, following a 2-1 victory against Derby County on Tuesday night.
However, in all likelihood, the Canaries will be playing Championship football next season, having gone on a good run of form a little too late, winning three of their last four matches.
“It can be a really exciting end to the season for us,” said Philippe Clement following the victory. “But all I am going to say about the table at the moment is that this result means we are certain to finish in the top 12, which is an improvement on last season.”
Still, the recent results are encouraging, and give Clement something to build on next season, when the 52-year-old will be hoping to mount a more serious promotion push.
The Belgian may need to add a little more attacking firepower in the summer, and Norwich are making some early moves, having submitted a €9m (£8m) bid for Frosinone star Ghedjemis, according to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness).
Celtic were also very interested in signing the right-winger during the January transfer window, and even tabled an offer, but he was desperate not to move to Parkhead, and instructed Frosinone to reject the Scottish side’s advances.
The 23-year-old would prefer to leave in the summer, but he is eyeing a move to the Premier League, which indicates it could be difficult for the Canaries to get a deal done.
Scout Chebli Ishaq lauded the Algerian as “remarkable” back in September, and he has continued to impress throughout the campaign, netting 14 goals in the Serie B alone.
Mo Toure compared to Erling Haaland after Derby goal
Mo Toure made up for missing from the penalty spot by scoring Norwich’s opening goal in the victory against Derby, and he has subsequently earned rave reviews from Clement.
“I saw many years ago a young (Erling) Haaland playing in Salzburg, and I was so impressed with him, about how he prepared his game. In the warm-up, they were giving crosses and he was missing chances and then he was really angry and when he scored it was like winning the Champions League, so happy. But you felt the fire in the boy.
“And I said to my staff, I think he was 17 or 18 or something, this guy is going to have a really big future. And you see, that’s also quality, it’s not only technical and physical qualities, but you need to have the mental qualities to be a good player, and Mo is showing really good stuff there.”
The 22-year-old has been a revelation since arriving at Carrow Road in January, picking up eight goals and three assists in nine Championship matches, and he could play a major role in any promotion push next season.
