Conah Walker vs Sam Eggington – Results & Post-Fight Report

At the top of a Matchroom-promoted bill at Wolverhampton’s Civic Hall, Conah Walker won a thriller against Sam Eggington, overcoming a torrid start to record a pulsating tenth-round stoppage win in their all-Midlands super welterweight tussle.

Walker vs Eggington didn’t disappoint or as long as it lasted;.

After losing a close decision to future world champion Lewis Crocker in June 2024, Walker (18-3-1, KO9) had won four on the spin in good company, outscoring Lewis Ritson, before early wins against Harry Scarff (TKO11), Liam Taylor (KO7) and Pat McCormack, collecting British and Commonwealth belts along the way.

Eggington (36-10, KO20) arrived on the back of a career full of thrilling and punishing fights, and after losing in a bid for the vacant European crown in March in an absorbing points loss to Abass Baraou, he had won two since, the last a technical decision victory on the cards against Lee Cutler last April.

Eggington began well in the opening round, before the two went to war in an up and down second frame.

Eggington was setting a white-hot pace, and he couldn’t miss with his uppercut in the fourth, as he landed several of the shots that troubled Walker multiple times.

Eggington was happy to box off the ropes, and continued to pump out hard shots, although Walker used his head to good effect at the end of the fifth, warned by the referee and causing bleeding to the eye of his opponent

That gave Walker a foothold, and he chugged forward to get the better of an absorbing sixth, but back came Eggington, until a tide-turning right hook to the body from Walker visibly hurt his man, and after an sustained assault, Walker found the breakthrough, a left to the body dropping Eggington.

Eggington made it out of the round, but his tank was emptying, and the tenth saw the end, as a jarring right hand froze Eggington to the ropes, with the referee jumping in at the perfect time so save Eggington from serious punishment.

Bilal Fawaz vs Ryan Kelly

Bilal Fawaz (12-1-1, KO4) defended his British and Commonwealth super welterweight titles for the first time, as he ground down Ryan Kelly (20-7-1, KO8), eventually forcing Kelly’s corner to remove their man from battle after nine rounds.

After a competitive start, Fawaz buzzed Kelly in the fourth, and repeated the trick in the fifth before the pair went toe-to-toe. Fawaz took over, and his volume and output was too much for Kelly to handle.

Eventually his corner had seen enough, and removed their man from battle before round ten.

Remaining Undercard

Shannon Ryan (11-1, KO2) made it four wins on the spin, and she impressively added the vacant Commonwealth crown to her IBF Intercontintal strap with a ruthless second-round win against former Commonwealth flyweight champion Nicola Hopewell (8-2, KO1).

Ryan flattened Hopewell with a right hand, and Hopewell’s corner wisely threw the towel in with the referee in mid-count.

Tiah Mai Ayton (6-0, KO5) was another to shine on the bill, and she continued her impressive start to professional life, as she dominated Stevi Levy (15-5, KO2) on the way to a fourth-round in their featherweight clash.

Junaid Bostan (11-1-1, KO8) returned to action after a pair of battles with the aforementioned Bilal Fawaz, and he won every round of eight in his super welterweight meeting with Mohammed Graich (12-5-1, KO6).

In four-rounders, super featherweight novice Louie Ward (2-0, KO1) was a shutout points winner against Jesus Carrasco (2-4-2, KO0), while at the same weight, debutant Harley Burrows (1-0, KO0) dropped Lewis Howells (3-8, KO0) in the second round before recording a 40-35 win.
