Amanda Nunes wasn’t concerned with card placement before UFC 324 fight cancellation: “It don’t bother me at all”

Amanda Nunes didn’t mind being in the UFC 324 co-main event with Kayla Harrison prior to the bout cancellation.

Nunes was set to make her comeback after initially retiring in 2023. While one might think Nunes’ comeback fight would headline a pay-per-view, that wasn’t the plan for UFC 324. The interim lightweight title fight between Justin Gaethje and Paddy Pimblettt got top billing.

Ultimately, Nunes’ scheduled opponent Kayla Harrison was removed from the fight after undergoing neck surgery. While the women’s bantamweight title fight is expected to be rescheduled, a date has not been revealed.

MMAJunkie spoke to “The Lioness,” who said her planned placement on the UFC 324 card wasn’t a problem.

“If UFC put it in the main event, it would be great,” Nunes said. “If it’s the co-main event, if it’s the first fight of the night, I want my belt back. It don’t bother me at all. I want to just step in the cage for the fight. This is what I like to do, what I’m born to do. I’m a champion. I’m going to go for the belt. The first fight of the night or the last one, I don’t care. I just want my belt back.”

Nunes’ last pro MMA fight took place back in June 2023. At the time, Nunes held both the women’s bantamweight and featherweight titles. “The Lioness” had a successful 135-pound title defense against Irene Aldana in the UFC 289 main event.

While Nunes retired after the bout, she felt there was unfinished business with Harrison. The two are former training partners and have shared mutual respect and interest in sharing the Octagon.
