ABUS’s first Italian-made MTB helmet is the convertible ‘Targon’

ABUS is expanding its mountain bike line-up with the new Targon, a convertible mountain bike helmet with a removable chin guard. One helmet with two distinct personalities: as a full-face helmet, it delivers maximum protection on singletracks and bike park laps, while with just a few quick moves, it transforms into an open-face helmet for more freedom on easy rides or everyday use. This latest addition to the portfolio marks a first for ABUS, as it is the brand’s first mountain bike helmet to be manufactured at its own production facility in Italy. Both sides of this 2-in-1 setup – full-face and open-face – offer uncompromising, fully fledged protection, including for downhill riding.

Two setups, one helmet – no compromises

The modular Targon is a true all-rounder for every kind of mountain bike ride – whether that means rough trail sections, mellow spins, bike park sessions or exhausting climbs.
A real standout is the innovative and patented Speed Latch System, which makes switching between the two setups quick and intuitive. All it takes is a press on each side with thumb and forefinger to remove the chin bar and reattaching it is just as straightforward. The Targon gives riders the option to switch from full-face to open-face – and back again – as the ride demands.

Fine-tuned fit, even when the trail gets rough

Fit is one of the most important factors in any helmet, and the Targon is built with adjustability in mind. The Vario Pads in the chin bar can be set in three positions, allowing riders to tailor the fit more precisely to their own head shape.

The Zoom™ Rapid Fit adjustment system adds another level of fine-tuning, using a rear dial for millimetre-precise adjustment. A short press resets the dial to its starting position. Comfort has not been overlooked either. Soft internal padding helps keep the fit secure and pleasant over longer rides. The pads are adjustable, washable and easy to remove, and are fixed inside the helmet with hook-and-loop fasteners.

Made in Italy – where precision meets passion

Like every ABUS helmet, the Targon is built around high-quality standards and precise workmanship. As the first mountain bike helmet in the brand’s Made-in-Italy range, it brings that promise to the trail in a particularly tangible way.

Well-thought-out details for long days on the trail

The Targon backs up its core concept with a number of well-executed features. A premium magnetic FIDLOCK buckle allows the chin strap to be opened and closed one-handed, even while wearing gloves. To help keep air flowing on harder efforts and warmer days, the helmet features 15 ventilation openings. A polycarbonate lower-edge shell helps protect the helmet from scratches, knocks and general wear.

The premium visor protects against sunlight and overhanging branches. In the event of a crash, it detaches to reduce strain on the neck. Beneath the visor is a dedicated area for securely holding goggles in place, helping to stop them from slipping when things get rough.

Protection that goes beyond the standard

In the MIPS version, the helmet’s safety concept is further enhanced by the MIPS Air Node Pro padding. The system is designed to reduce rotational movement transferred to the head in the event of an angled impact.

The protection package is rounded off by all relevant certifications: the Targon meets the European EN 1078 bicycle helmet standard, the CPSC standard used in the USA and Canada, and ASTM F1952-22 – a voluntary additional test with tougher requirements specifically for downhill helmets.

Whichever setup you choose, the Targon brings a clean, sporty and modern look to the category. The helmet is available in sizes S (51-55 cm), M (55-58 cm) and L (57-61 cm), and comes in velvet black, sand beige, ash purple and lemon white.

The Targon also stands out for its lightweight design, with a weight starting at 950 g (size S, with chin guard) and 490 g (size S, without chin guard).
