Douglas Luiz and Nico Gonzalez seemed on track to be bought out by Aston Villa and Atletico Madrid at some point, but that won’t be the case, and Juventus will have to find a solution again in the summer, Tuttomercatoweb reports.
The Bianconeri had hoped to cash in nearly €60M from the duo, but it won’t happen, at least automatically. The Brazilian midfielder headed back to Birmingham after failing to leave his mark at Nottingham Forest. However, he’s not a regular starter. His €25M option to buy won’t be picked up.
Gonzalez has had a better season than Douglas Luiz, but the conditions to trigger a €32M permanent exit from Juventus haven’t been met. He missed a few matches due to injury in the second half of the season and is currently on the mend. He has tallied 5 goals in 37 matches with Los Colchoneros.
The two could still stay where they are, but only after the terms are renegotiated. Per La Gazzetta dello Sport, Atletico Madrid are willing to pay around €20M for the Argentine. Instead, it’ll be tougher to offload the midfielder. He has a residual €30M financial value and makes €5M per year.
Our Take on Juventus, Douglas Luiz, and Nico Gonzalez
The latter didn’t perform at his Fiorentina levels and is a bit injury-prone, but he wasn’t awful in Turin. They might as well keep him if they don’t find a good deal. They’ll need another winger, as Edon Zhegrova has given them very little. They could use some depth in the midfield too, but it’ll take quite a lot of work to make the former a real asset.
