Manchester United are now ready to launch their move to sign Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United this summer after Paul Scholes claimed he is better than Arsenal’s Declan Rice.
Man Utd ready to launch Tonali offer
The Red Devils are still in good spirits after defeating rivals Liverpool last weekend. Whether that good mood results in a permanent job for Michael Carrick remains the big question, however.
The interim boss has performed his job to perfection, achieving Champions League qualification and often doing so in style. If he is to land the permanent gig, then there’s also every chance that INEOS back him in full in this summer’s transfer window.
Man Utd gifted chance to build £300m forward line with English star now open to joining
One of the best players in the Premier League is open to a move this summer.
It’s there that midfielder reinforcements will be the priority, amid links to the likes of Elliot Anderson and Tonali. There’s certainly plenty of admiration for both, but perhaps only one will arrive and that may well be the latter.
According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Man United are now ready to launch a big-money offer to sign Tonali this summer. Newcastle value their midfielder at a whopping €100m (£86m), although it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils’ big-money offer will match that asking price.
The Italian is certainly one to watch in the coming months. For all of Newcastle’s clear struggles this season, his level has remained. As each game passes by and the Magpies continue to head towards a season without European football, keeping hold of such players will prove more and more difficult.
The former Juventus man is certainly rated highly at Old Trafford, too. Man United legend went as far as to say that Tonali is “better than” Arsenal’s Declan Rice not so long ago – saying: “Yes. I think he’s better than Declan Rice.
“I really like Declan Rice, don’t get me wrong. I think he’s got everything, I just think too many times he takes too many touches of the ball. I think he tries to look a little bit more stylish than he needs to.”
“Nothing changed” at Man Utd, says Carrick
Ahead of Man United’s tough trip to Sunderland on Saturday, Carrick was once again asked about the permanent job. As ever, though, he remained the most composed man in the room, urging his side to continue their form.
“It’s a matter of days ago and we’ve got eyes on finishing the season strongly as well. I understand the question, I understand the timing of it, but from my point of view right at this stage it’s just putting the boys in a place to finish the season strongly.”
“Then, as I’ve said all along, and I’m calm about it, it’ll get sorted out when it’s going to get sorted out. Some of it’s out of my hands, so we’ll see what happens.”
No one would blame the former midfielder for dreaming big, that’s for sure. He has been an excellent interim appointment and it’s now up to INEOS to make their decision.
