The 2026 NFL Draft is over and teams are getting comfortable with their new draft picks. The next class of players is getting prepared now for another year of college football. Each position will be analyzed in the coming days. Here is the 2027 NFL Draft prospect watchlist: Safeties.
Ty Benefield, LSU Tigers
Benefield was a three-star recruit in the class of 2023 who signed with Boise State out of California. In 2023, he played a bit, registering 46 total tackles. He improved in 2024, racking up 82 total tackles, three passes defended and two interceptions. For the 2025 season, Benefield had 107 total tackles, two interceptions and four passes defended. His play helped the Broncos win 21 games over the last two seasons.
He has good size at 6-foot-3 and 208 pounds, and with it comes solid play strength. Benefield is a versatile player who lines up all over the field. He can make an impact against the run as a tackle machine from the secondary. Benefield may struggle in man coverage at times, but has plenty of production and he’ll hope it will translate from Boise State to LSU.
KJ Bolden, Georgia Bulldogs
Bolden was a five-star recruit in the class of 2024 who decided to stay in-state to play for the Bulldogs. He played immediately for Georgia, racking up 59 total tackles, one interception and one pass defended. In 2025, he improved to have 76 total tackles, five passes defended and two interceptions. He helped Georgia make the CFP in both seasons he has been there.
At 6-foot and 190 pounds, he isn’t the biggest safety and will need to fill out his frame. He is a good athlete with good ball skills that start with tracking the ball in the air well. Bolden makes an impact against the run and also has nice eyes in zone coverage. He can take better angles to the football and could struggle in man to man against wide receivers.
Tae Johnson, Notre Dame Fighting Irish
In the class of 2024, Johnson was a four-star recruit who decided to stay in-state to play for Notre Dame. He didn’t play much in 2024, but then had 48 total tackles, four interceptions and three passes defended in 2025. His play helped Notre Dame win 10 games to finish out their season.
He is 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, which is solid, but he is still growing into his body. Johnson has good length and range, which helps him when he lines up in a deep zone. He has great ball skills. Johnson is still new to the position, so he needs to learn it better and has dealt with injury in his career. Cleaning up some tackling issues may also help.
Koi Perich, Oregon Ducks
Perich was a four-star recruit in the class of 2024 who signed with Minnesota to stay in-state. He played well as a freshman with 46 total tackles, five interceptions and three passes defended. In 2025, he upped things to total 82 tackles, one interception and two passes defended. Minnesota won eight games each season Perich was there and he decided to transfer to Oregon this offseason.
At 6-foot-1 and 201 pounds, Perich has solid size for an NFL safety. He lines up all over, showing great versatility, which is helped by his athleticism. Perich attacks the catchpoint well and can be trusted in deep zone. He can add play strength and be a more willing tackler to help make his run defense more consistent. Perich is best as a deep safety despite his versatility, so finding a team that will let him play that way is key.
Other Draft Prospects
Bray Hubbard, Alabama Crimson Tide
Hubbard has good size and is able to use that as a good run-supporting safety. He has had some good experience at Alabama and is part of a good safety duo.
Rod Moore, Michigan Wolverines
Moore has had some serious injuries that has limited him over the last few seasons. He was a great athlete with a lot of range, but he needs to show he has bounced back from the injuries on the field.
Keon Sabb, Alabama Crimson Tide
Sabb is the other half of the good safety duo at Alabama. He has good route recognition and sees the field well.
Adon Schuler, Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Schuler is a big hitter who can cover tight ends well. He is one of many talented Notre Dame defenders who are draft-eligible this season.
